Calling All Leaders
Help Create a Healthier Society
Working from both the ground up, and the top down, we offer expertise, resources, education, training, and mentorship that can be used to inform community development and public health interventions that are just, equitable, and recognize the closely connected rights, health, and wellbeing of people and animals through a Just One Health approach.
Along these lines, we have partnered with Project ECHO to deliver free educational resources and technical expertise to advance inclusive and evidence-based social and environmental justice interventions that serve the public health needs of vulnerable and marginalized communities.
The project builds on a One Health framework, which recognizes the interconnected health of people, animals, plants, and the environment, as well as the need for collaboration. A Just One Health approach expands the One Health framework by placing justice and primary prevention at the heart of local, regional, national, and global programs, policies, and research priorities.

Create Phoenix Zone Communities
Phoenix Zone communities foster and expand rights, including freedom of movement; protection from violence and exploitation; and access to adequate nutrition, healthcare, and a clean and safe home and environment.
Phoenix Zone projects focus on structural changes that serve the needs of vulnerable groups.
Phoenix Zone projects and communities can take many forms, limited only by the imaginations of those who build them. Perhaps an animal sanctuary for formerly farmed animals might partner with a community agriculture organization to establish community gardens and education programs on plant-based nutrition in neighborhoods with limited access to healthy food. Or an immigrants’ rights organization might provide support to transition agricultural workers out of exploitative and abusive jobs at slaughterhouses, where racial and ethnic minorities have made up a majority of reported cases of COVID-19.

Take the Lead
We are looking for people who can inspire and lead efforts to build more compassionate and just communities. We have witnessed how some of the most vulnerable and marginalized individuals can rise up to lead others. You can too.
